I was saved (forgiven all my sin against God) by His sovereign grace while a student studying medicine at Edinburgh University in the 1970s after a journalist friend explained the central message of the Bible using the Bridge Illustration* (see post)
After a series of hospital jobs in Glasgow I was sent by my church, St George’s Tron to the OM (Operation Mobilisation Mission) ship MV Logos as medical officer in 1983. While in Venezuela in 1984 God brought Marianna, a local volunteer, fluent in Spanish as well as English, to help work on board-she, in 1985 became my wife. We were married at her parent’s home in Trinidad.
Very unhappy with the teaching and practice of the local church in Bournemouth (1993-2005) I applied for jobs in Ulster knowing there was a faithful Biblical Reformed church in Ballymena. In 2008 I got the job of Specialty Doctor in Emergency Medicine at Belfast Royal Victoria Hospital and presently being retired I just do one locum shift weekly. We started attending Covenant Protestant Reformed Church in Ballymena and have been members since December 2010 where I (along with my wife) am caretaker and lead a men’s Bible study.
This has been the best move of my life and I have to exhort you dear brother or sister to join a true church as a priority and fulfil the duty you have to God.
