Encouragement from Exodus

Exodus 1  12  But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew.

Exodus 3 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

The famous emblem of many Presbyterian churches is from this event–“Aflame but unconsumed.”

Exodus 3 14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. 15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

The reason affliction made them strong and that they were not consumed even in their weakness was that JEHOVAH the great unchangeable I AM was with them as their God and helper. Our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth. “Before Abraham was I AM” said Jesus Christ and his immutability is taught in Hebrews 13:8.
