Baptism (6). Spirit baptism prophesied in the Old Testament (as pouring/sprinkling).

The Old Testament, especially the major prophets are replete with prophecy concerning the coming of the Holy Spirit baptism upon God’s people either then or in the New Testament age and I think I am correct in saying every one of them is a sprinkling or pouring!

Here they are: Proverbs 1:23

“Turn you at my reproof:
behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you,
I will make known my words unto you.”

Isaiah 32:15

“until the spirit be poured upon us from on high,
and the wilderness be a fruitful field,
and the fruitful field be counted for a forest.”

Isaiah 44:3

“For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty,
and floods upon the dry ground:
I will pour my spirit upon thy seed,
and my blessing upon thine offspring:”  and note the reference to the children of believers!

Isaiah 52:15

“so shall he sprinkle many nations;
the kings shall shut their mouths at him:
for that which had not been told them shall they see;
and that which they had not heard shall they consider.”  This referring clearly to Pentecost and beyond after the cross.

Ezekiel 36:25-27

“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.”

Ezekiel 39:29

29 Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord God.”

Joel 2:16-17,28-30.

“Blow the trumpet in Zion,
sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:
16 gather the people,
sanctify the congregation,
assemble the elders,
gather the children,
and those that suck the breasts:
let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber,
and the bride out of her closet.
17 Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord,
weep between the porch and the altar,
and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord,
and give not thine heritage to reproach,
that the heathen should rule over them:
wherefore should they say among the people,
Where is their God?

“And it shall come to pass afterward,
that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh;
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams,
your young men shall see visions:
29 and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids
in those days will I pour out my spirit.
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth,
blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.” Again note that the heritage upon whom God would pour out his spirit included leaders, people, children and infants.

Zechariah 12:10

 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. ”

All of these prophecies are fulfilled in NT age conversions in the one baptism of the Holy Spirit. And how is it universally pictured? Then the sign must be commensurate!
